Description of the product line
SOLIDWORKS product data management (PDM) solutions help engineers get their design data under control. They can securely store and index the design data for fast retrieval, eliminate concerns about version control and data loss, and even share and collaborate on designs online with people outside their organization.
SOLIDWORKS has been providing SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM (PDMW) application for years, which was successfully serving needs of small-to-medium size engineering teams, with a relatively straightforward workflow and processes. For reaching bigger clients, with large amount of data, dozens of users accessing the data management application concurrently, as well as clients with offices distributed through multiple locations, a strategic decision was taken to introduce new generation of the data management application, which was called SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM (EPDM). The challenge was to be able to continue developing and maintain PDMW and at the same time allocate development resources for building SOLIDWORKS EPDM solution.
Why AMC Bridge?
AMC Bridge has been working with SOLIDWORKS for a number of years at the time when SOLIDWORKS initiated search for additional help with their PDM R&D needs, and with an excellent track record. Having previous experience of working with data management technologies, in conjunction with the overall technical skills and reliability as a development partner, made AMC Bridge a perfect choice for SOLIDWORKS to engage in the SolidWorks PDM related development activities.
Initially SOLIDWORKS approached AMC Bridge for resources that could help with the maintenance of the PDMW application. AMC Bridge conducted a successful search, interview and hiring of the resources with the required set of skills. After about a year working on PDMW SOLIDWORKS decided to expand the SOLIDWORKS PDM development group at AMC Bridge into SOLIDWORKS EPDM development organization.
When SOLIDWORKS EPDM was released, it became an incredible commercial success. Shortly after the release SolidWorks reached out to AMC Bridge team for additional resources to join the Tech Support group, to service the fast growing community of the SOLIDWORKS EPDM users. By that time AMC Bridge built a substantial expertise with SOLIDWORKS EPDM, while participating in the development of the product, so it was a natural choice to boost the Tech Support with its resources. AMC Bridge was able to provide the required engineering personnel that were added to the international SOLIDWORKS Support organization.
AMC Bridge is a highly reliable and technically qualified development partner to a large number of software development organizations. SOLIDWORKS had an opportunity to experience that on a number of joint projects that were developed and successfully released with the help from AMC Bridge. The fact that AMC Bridge has a very low attrition rate helped it to become a long-term development partner to organizations like SOLIDWORKS. SOLIDWORKS PDM types of applications have a broad spectrum of customization and implementation possibilities, so retaining the expertise developed within AMC Bridge team, helped SOLIDWORKS to grow their development resources within AMC Bridge over time, which at the end helped to achieve their aggressive product development goals, as well as branch out the partnership with AMC Bridge from pure development engagement into Tech Support of the products that AMC Bridge helped to build to begin with.
